About Qiyun
I was born and raised in Shanghai, where Mandarin has been my first language for 18 years. Having attended international school throughout my life, I'm fully bilingual in English and Chinese. At my university, I tutor English-speaking peers through a dedicated tutoring group, giving me deep insight into common struggles with accent, writing, and comprehension. I've worked with students from complete beginners to advanced learners preparing for Chinese exams. I'm also patient and experienced with younger learners, having tutored my American-born-Chinese nephew for two years.

My approach is tailored by level, with particular strength in helping English speakers overcome common pronunciation pitfalls—tones, retroflex sounds, and rhythm—to speak Mandarin without a heavy accent. Intermediate and advanced learners also build grammar and fluency. Lessons run 1–2 hours. As a native Mandarin speaker teaching Chinese at my American university, I welcome all ages and levels.
