About Wenting
I’m a Mandarin teacher originally from Shanghai, China now based in Auckland. I got the CTCSOL (Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) and completed a Master of Education in Teaching & Learning Languages in New Zealand and a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. I’ve taught both children and adults in different kinds of schools and online for four years. I love seeing students gain confidence step by step, and I enjoy creating a calm, encouraging space based on your interest where you can ask questions freely, make mistakes safely and feel proud of your progress.

My Chinese (Mandarin and Shanghainese) lessons are practical, relaxed and highly personalised. A typical class is 60 minutes and combines speaking, listening, vocabulary and a little bit of grammar in context. I use lots of real-life topics, visuals, and real world materials so you can actually use Chinese outside the lesson, not just in the textbook. I hold a Master of Education in Teaching & Learning Languages from a New Zealand university and have experience teaching both children and adults. My lessons are suitable for complete beginners to upper-intermediate learners, including heritage speakers who want to rebuild confidence in Mandarin.

Perfect! I absolutely recommend Wenting as a language teacher. She is engaging and friendly, she is clear in her instructions and very encouraging - capable of both telling me when I get things right and correcting my mistakes. She prepares detailed lessons for each class which build on vocabulary I learned in the previous weeks, and she sends me a copy of the slides and an audio recording of the content of that lesson afterwards, which I can use to practice during the week. It's not easy to find a Shanghainese teacher and I have tried a few schools / online apps previously, and none of them compare to how well I am learning with Wenting as my teacher.
