About Juliana
I am an engineering student with a minor in Latin American Literature (odd combination, I know). I'm from Colombia - Spanish is my first language! I have a passion for understanding culture through conversations and dialects and I love to work with people! I have taught Spanish as a volunteer with small children all through High School and continue to do so today. I have also tutored people throughout my life and helped them do well in Spanish classes and in job interviews where Spanish is required; I can help with homework assignments and quizzes, learning vocabulary, grammar, and language structure, listening, pronunciation, written expression (so you can sound like a real person and not like you used a translator!) but most of all speaking and conversing so you can use the Spanish you know in real life!

My teaching method is mostly based on conversation, application, and learning how to communicate with others using Spanish in different contexts and levels. By this, I mean that the best way to learn Spanish is to consciously, constantly use it- learning vocabulary is more effective when you need it to speak to someone else, attend a meeting where you have to discuss your favorite movie and have discussions about topics, and even watch the movie itself. Similarly, sentence structure and grammar should focus on being able to read books and articles, write emails, texts, and comments (or other forms of online communication), and listening is fundamental! Understanding what others say is needed for discovering new songs and artists that you can share with others, meeting people, enlarging your vocabulary, and understanding grammatical structures through examples. Language is about connection and people - it's about learning how to have conversations!
