Why choose me?
-I've walked the language-learning journey myself. I know the challenges and what truly works. Having lived in several countries and still learning languages, I understand the real obstacles: speaking confidently, thinking in the language, and using it naturally.

-As an examiner, I understand exactly what exam boards are looking for and help students develop the confidence, techniques, and skills needed to achieve your target grades. Whether your goal is to pass your exam, achieve a top score, or secure a place at your chosen university, I provide the guidance and support needed to help you succeed.

This is how we will work together:
Through my proven teaching approach, the Miss Martínez Method, I deliver personalised online lessons that combine focused exam preparation, structured learning, and real-life language skills.

1. Initial Assessment
-We start by getting to know your current level, strengths, and areas to improve. From there, I create a personalised study plan based on your goals and the time you have available.

2. Exam Preparation (IB GCSE & IGCSE)
-We work on all 4 key skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking), alongside essential grammar, vocabulary, and exam techniques. This includes past paper practice, speaking preparation, and strategies to maximise marks and avoid common mistakes.
-You will also have access to a shared folder full of carefully selected resources to support your independent learning and revision.

3. Ongoing Support
-You’ll receive regular feedback and progress tracking, plus extra support between lessons when needed, including corrections and guidance to help you stay on track and build confidence.

Find out more about Mariola

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak Spanish fluently because it’s my native language, but I’ve also learned other languages along the way. I was lucky to have some really good teachers who kept me motivated, so I know how much of a difference a good teacher can make.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I’d probably say Shakira. She’s known all over the world and represents a mix of cultures, which is something I really like about the Spanish speaking world.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I really like the word “sobremesa”. It’s that time after a meal when people just stay at the table talking, sometimes for hours. It says a lot about how important connection and conversation are in Spanish culture, and it’s actually something my students really like as well.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

It matters to me because it’s part of who I am, but also because it’s something I really enjoy sharing with others. I love seeing how speaking Spanish can open doors for people — whether it’s for travel, work, or just connecting with others. And honestly, seeing my students gain confidence and start using it in real situations is one of the best parts of what I do.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

I think the main difficulty is that it can feel a bit daunting at the beginning, especially when you’re trying to speak more naturally. I’ve worked with students from different countries, and I also keep learning languages myself, so I really understand those challenges. What helps most is regular practice and using the language in real situations, even if you’re not perfect.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

False friends can really trick you! I remember a friend of mine going to a pharmacy in England and trying to say she had a cold, but she ended up saying she was “constipated”. It’s a good reminder that words don’t always mean what we think they do. For example, “constipado” in Spanish actually means to have a cold, not what it means in English. It’s all part of the learning process!
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I’ve lived in a few different countries, and that’s really helped me a lot with languages. You end up using them in real, everyday situations, so you learn to adapt quickly and gain confidence. And I think that’s the same for students too — even without travelling, using the language in real-life situations really makes a big difference.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I think what makes me a Superprof is that I really understand both sides of learning a language — as a teacher and as someone who is still learning languages myself. I’ve worked with students from different countries and exam systems (IB, IGCSE, GCSE, etc.), so I know how to adapt lessons to each person. My focus is always on building confidence and helping students actually use the language in real life, not just learn it from a book.
