About Amrit
I am a Sociology tutor with 9 years of experience across Sociology, Law, Criminology and Politics, alongside previous experience in early-years Maths, English and Science tutoring.
Having ADHD myself, alongside traits associated with autism, dyspraxia, dyslexia and dyscalculia, I understand that highly intelligent and capable students do not always thrive within conventional learning methods. I remained undiagnosed throughout my own academic journey, yet achieved strong academic results by developing personalised revision systems, learning techniques and structure-based strategies that worked specifically for the way my brain processes information. Many of these approaches now form part of the methods my own students consistently praise and benefit from.
I achieved an A* in A-Level Sociology and the highest mark out of approximately 60 students in my cohort, despite receiving a D in my Year 12 mocks. This experience has given me a particularly strong understanding of how much difference effective revision, exam technique and the right learning strategies can make.
I later graduated with a First Class Law with Sociology LLB and specialised further in socio-legal research during my Master’s at UCL. I also currently conduct socio-legal research in my role as Head of Research for a legal education charity.
Alongside this, I have attended and received offers to study at leading global universities and have completed the Bar Course at ICCA, the professional training course for aspiring barristers, funded by two highly competitive scholarships.

My Sociology lessons are highly adaptable and tailored to the individual student. I focus particularly on exam technique, essay structure, evaluation, sociological knowledge, confidence building and helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for.
Rather than simply reteaching content, I encourage students to actively retrieve what they already know. A typical lesson may begin with a timed brainstorm of an essay question from memory. I then use structured prompts, questions and clues where needed before giving targeted feedback on missing sociologists, theories, concepts, application and evaluation.
From there, we may develop the student's ideas into a stronger essay plan, improve individual paragraphs or work through a full model answer with commentary on the exam technique being used.
I place particular emphasis on helping students understand the difference between simply knowing Sociology and being able to use that knowledge effectively in an exam. This includes teaching students how to develop analysis, make explicit links to the question and produce nuanced evaluation rather than relying on generic strengths and weaknesses.
I have worked with many neurodivergent students, including students with ADHD, autism and dyslexia. My teaching therefore places a strong emphasis on clarity, structure and reducing overwhelm. Where appropriate, I also introduce personalised revision, organisation and active-recall strategies to help students become more confident and independent learners.
Ultimately, my aim is not simply to help students memorise more Sociology, but to teach them how to revise it, structure it and turn their knowledge into high-level exam answers.
