The foundation for teaching any subject to students is forming a connection with them. Understanding how they think makes it easier to relate the material to their previous knowledge. Having a solid structure to a lesson provides ease for both the instructor and the student. But, having flexibility to move away from this structure if required is just as important. The balance between structure and flexibility is a major key in teaching any skill or knowledge.
