About Nia
As a nine-year educator, I have seen the decline in literacy. It has been my mission for the last four years to really help bridge that gap. I feel that when parents recognize that gap in their child and want to seek help, someone should be there to assist them, their child, and their teacher to get them to reach higher heights. I also believe all children should have access to rigorous content followed by high expectations. I want to give students the strategies they need to be successful in the classroom and BEYOND! My background has been with students who were reading three or more grade levels below their own and I was always able to improve their reading levels by at least one grade level by the end of the school year. I know I can do the same if not more for your child.

My teaching method is one that allows me to first evaluate where your child is. Testing their abilities in a low stakes way. In addition, I would want to see what their teachers are saying and see some of their work. I would use both forms of data to inform where our lesson focuses will be.
Lessons will include a mixture of fluency, grammar and phonics support and wrapping up with applying what we read and our skill application to a writing model for that lesson.
I have been studying the Science of Reading for some time now and know that students grow more in ELA when they are interested in what it is their reading followed by using that information to teach those foundational skills.
I want to create an environment that is conducive to learning while also ensuring students feel safe to make mistakes because they know that those mistakes help them grow!
