About Liam
My name is Liam, and I'm an airline captain based in northern Canada flying IFR turbine aircraft in some of the most demanding conditions on earth, arctic weather, remote strips, and real-world decision making that textbooks simply can't teach. I bring that operational experience directly into every lesson.

I don't teach aviation the way it's written in a manual. I teach it the way it actually works at altitude. Every concept I cover is grounded in real scenarios I've encountered in the cockpit — from navigating without reliable ground infrastructure in the Arctic to managing turbine systems in extreme cold weather operations. Students learn not just the what but the why, which is exactly what Transport Canada examiners are looking for.
Each session starts with a quick review of the previous topic to reinforce retention. From there we dive into the core concept of the day, whether that's aerodynamics, IFR procedures, navigation, meteorology, or aircraft systems. I use real flight examples to illustrate every principle, followed by practice questions in the format of the actual Transport Canada written exam. Sessions close with a summary and a clear study focus for before our next meeting.
Most ground school instructors teach from a classroom. I teach from experience. As an active IFR turbine captain operating in Arctic Canada I deal daily with the exact systems, weather, and decision making that student pilots are studying for. My students don't just pass their written exams, they understand aviation at a level that makes them safer, more confident pilots from day one in the cockpit.
My lessons are designed for student pilots working toward their PPL or CPL in Canada, pilots preparing for Transport Canada written exams, and aviation enthusiasts who want a deep practical understanding of how flying actually works. No prior experience is required — whether you're just starting ground school or struggling with a specific subject like navigation or meteorology, I tailor every session to exactly where you are.
