About Cecily
I am a guitar tutor with over 17 years of experience, holding a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music with a focus on guitar. I specialize in teaching students with learning differences, including ADHD, dyslexia, and anxiety, using adaptive, strengths-based methods. My background in music therapy and special education informs my approach, allowing me to create lessons that are both effective and supportive.
I work with students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players, helping them develop technical skills, musicality, and personal expression. Lessons are designed to build confidence, foster creativity, and make learning enjoyable. My teaching approach focuses on helping students master the guitar while developing their own musical voice. I cover core techniques like fingerstyle playing, lead guitar phrasing, creative composition, and personal expression. I adapt my teaching to each student’s style and goals, ensuring they progress at their own pace. Students exploring blues, rock, or other genres receive focused support to build technique and confidence. I emphasize musicality, phrasing, and timing while encouraging creativity and experimentation. Each lesson is designed to strengthen skills while helping students express themselves naturally through music.
I provide practical exercises, improvisation challenges, and composition tasks to deepen understanding and fluency on the instrument. Constructive feedback is given in a positive and motivating way, helping learners refine their skills effectively. I guide students to combine technical proficiency with personal style, making their playing unique and expressive.
