About Lily
As an incoming college sophomore, I've had to navigate AP, NYS Regents, and the college application/essay process very recently. Additionally, being an older sister of a student who is currently grappling with AP and state exam prep, tutoring her through that experience has kept my knowledge more recent and allowed me to grow as a tutor in parallel with changing guidelines. In my NYS Regents, I received a 99, graduating with designation in ELA. On my AP English Language exam, I earned a 4, then receiving an AP honors award. In research writing, my experience is based in my participation in National History Day, where I placed as a state finalist two years in a row for my work on ancient history and judicial analysis. For me, my most proud achievement came from my college essay, which assisted in my entry to all the schools I applied for. To this day, I have been advocating for the importance of focusing on curating an essay that is not only grammatically flawless, but a true representation of who the student is as a human. Finding your voice and being able to be creative is what I believe separates students from a crowd, especially in pools of applications when that time comes! My experience in creative writing comes from my role as editor of my high school's literary magazine, then inspiring me to work on creative expression, winning first place at the Sharon Springs Poetry festival. I also worked to diversify my tutoring skills by branching out into math, as well. I worked as a tutor teaching K-10 at a math enrichment center in New York City for my first year of college, and that experience taught me different ways of assessing students and expanding techniques to approach improvement in a constructive and positive way for the student, instead of beating themselves up. I hope to leave all the students I work alongside with a respect for growth and the idea that it's okay not to be perfect right away, and that you're never too old to keep learning and growing as a student.

Hi there, My name is Lily! I’m an incoming sophomore at New York University, dual majoring in history and social cultural analysis. Throughout my whole life, reading and writing have been main focuses of my educational journey, both in and out of school. Now having the ability to be a part of other students' journeys in learning to love these essential skills is something I am absolutely delighted about! Lessons will begin with brief reading and writing exercises to assess strengths and places to improve as students in current school and as prospective college students. From there, I will target specific skills to hone and focus in on as we continue our journey to become even better readers and writers! I would say my patience and creativity set me apart from other English tutors, thinking about the curriculum, but also valuing personal expression and individual voice. I would say the age group my writing guidance would be most applicable to would be middle-high school students, and my reading tutoring supports students fourth grade and older. I would love to be able to become a part of young students’ literary journeys, and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out anytime!! :)
