About Zachary
Since I am OCT certified (Ontario College of Teachers) my standards of professionalism are high. I want students to know that I am friendly and that students can talk to me if needed about anything, but I follow policies and ensure that rules are being kept in check. I am a firm believer in having a healthy student/teacher relationship that is both professional and encouraging. There is a quote by Norman Vaughn and it states: "Dream big and dare to fail." I share this quote because I want all students that I work with to set a goal and don't let anything get in the way of that. If a student is willing to set a goal for themselves, they must know that obstacles will try to interrupt them. The only person that can make sure the goal is completed...is themselves.

My teaching style is to assist students in understanding what is being asked of them so that they can take charge of their learning. Whether the subject be math or language, students need to be shown what the questions are asking, not just assuming. I encourage students who do not understand the questions to ask to have it broken down in a language that makes sense to them. This style of mine has achieved success with my students as it holds them accountable to seek help for improvement. A typical lesson for me would be an instructional time at the beginning of a lesson. This means that all students are listening attentively to the topic or concept. I provide an explanation and examples to ensure students understand what I want them to be able to do. Next, students would be given a task to work on to show their understanding of this newly explained topic. Once students are completed, they all need a marking tool (red pen or pencil crayon) and we as a group share answers and students mark their work. I ensure students if they have not done well on the task that they will be given more opportunities to show their abilities in the future and we can only improve from where we are now. I have been tutoring for almost a year now with a student and I have found that I gain connections quite well. If a healthy tutor/student relationship can be made, explanations can be understood better and trust can be established. I want my students to succeed and I take pride when someone I am working with feels confident in what they are doing. I have stated that I have primarily been working in the elementary division, so the lesson plan style I have mentioned is more geared for that.
