About Damien
I have a bachelor degree in writing. I am currently doing my Masters In Secondary Teaching. I have experience as a swimming school teacher and I have worked closely with youth groups. I am an avid reader and writer with some of my work contracted to be traditionally published later this year. I am an active member of the writing community and usually take part in volunteer editing and work shopping other stories, in order to improve my own writing. On top of that - I do some freelance editing work on the side.

Teaching English can change from teacher to teacher. Often students in late primary school, and high school can be confused - because what they're being taught seems to be changing throughout the years. The rules they learnt before are now being broken. Exceptions are being introduced. Contradictions are being made. Soon they're simply catering their writing to what they think a teacher wants to see.
When I teach written English, I seek to help the student transcend this confusion. How? Well when it comes to being proficient in literature, the following is key. Context and audience. Who is it being written for. What is appropriate for that audience, and how can you adapt the way you write to suit the reader. Clarity. Is the writing clear? How can it be clearer? Literary conventions. What are the literary conventions that are most prominent in good writing. When is it okay to break these literary conventions?
These, along with a few other principals, will not only teach someone to develop their own style of writing, but it will also teach someone to be adaptable, chop and change when needed, as well as critically read and analyse texts. When I teach written English - this ultimately is my desired outcome.
