About Shauna
My name is Shauna Leeson, and I am a teacher living and working in Ontario, Canada. I have been teaching and tutoring for over 15 years in many different schools and cultural contexts. I love to explore the narratives that define people through story and the written word, and I find tutoring to be a wonderful opportunity to guide learners in a context that allows for vulnerability and a growth mindset.

I try my best to learn about the individual to establish a rapport before jumping into the expectations of a lesson. I feel that we cannot fully understand a student's learning needs and style before we know the individual. What sets me apart as a tutor is I have worked with students from many cultural backgrounds through my 6 years teaching at an American International School in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Through my time there, I tutored many of the local students, and taught students that brought so many different approaches and narratives to the classroom. I think through my teaching in Abu Dhabi, I gained a plethora of knowledge that helped me grow as an educator and in my instructional ethos. My lessons would be geared towards students between the grade levels of 7-12, as that is what my certification is in. A typical lesson plan would involve a review of previous content, a mini lesson where I would model the work, guided independent work, conference and discussion, and lastly an "exit ticket" or check for understanding from the lesson at hand.
