About Ureeba
“We read the world before the word.” – Paulo Freire Hello! My name is Ureeba, and I’m passionate about helping students discover their potential while making learning meaningful and inclusive. I believe education should reflect the diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences that students bring into the classroom. That’s why I use a culturally relevant approach in my teaching — connecting lessons to students’ lives, communities, and perspectives so that learning feels authentic, engaging, and empowering. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience and 7 years of teaching experience. I have my OCT and graduated with a Master's in Teaching from OISE at the University of Toronto. My teachables are English, history, and the social sciences. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with students from a wide range of cultural and academic backgrounds, and I’ve learned that respecting and valuing each student’s uniqueness is key to helping them thrive. My students appreciate that I am patient, adaptable, and attentive to their individual needs. I work to create a supportive environment where students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and see their own identities reflected in their learning. Whether that means bringing in diverse texts, using real-world examples from different cultural contexts, or adapting strategies to fit different learning styles, my goal is always to make lessons both effective and personally meaningful. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading globally diverse literature (always looking for new recs!), bike-riding, and writing poetry. These hobbies allow me to connect mentally and offer a fresh mindset for my students. If you’re looking for a tutor who not only helps you reach your academic goals but also respects and celebrates your identity, I’d love to work with you!

My Teaching Approach
As a tutor, I focus on creating lessons that are both structured and adaptable, tailored to the student’s goals, strengths, and learning style. I believe that students learn best when they are actively engaged, so I use a combination of discussion-based learning, real-world examples, and guided practice to make concepts clear and memorable.
Methodology & Techniques
Personalized learning – I assess each student’s needs and adapt lessons accordingly.
Active engagement – I encourage students to explain ideas in their own words, ask questions, and connect material to their own experiences.
Step-by-step scaffolding – I break down complex topics into manageable parts so students can build confidence as they progress.
Feedback-driven learning – I give constructive feedback, focusing on both strengths and areas for growth.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-up & review (5–10 minutes): Quick recap of previous material and check-in on challenges.
Core lesson (15–20 minutes): Introduction of a new concept through explanation, examples, and interactive activities.
Practice & application (15–20 minutes): Exercises, problem-solving, or writing tasks to apply learning.
Reflection & feedback (5–10 minutes): Summarize what we covered, address questions, and set goals for next time.
What Sets Me Apart
I combine patience, creativity, and adaptability to make lessons engaging and meaningful. My background in both academics and hands-on teaching allows me to connect theory with practice, helping students see why something matters, not just how to do it. I also emphasize confidence-building, so students walk away not only understanding the material but also trusting their own abilities.
