About Rory
My specialist subjects are Latin and Greek. Whilst reading Classics at Oxford, I began to tutor in these subjects; I have taught both beginners and A Level/IB students, and feel comfortable teaching at any level.
Additionally, I have worked as an English teacher at a school in Tanzania and at a university in Myanmar. These experiences improved my teaching of English language, which puts me in a strong position to teach both native and non-native speakers.
After university, I was an teacher for a year at a successful educational charity called IntoUniversity. My role at IntoUniversity involved running workshops in schools and a homework club for both primary and secondary school students (as well as giving UCAS advice). As such, I have a wide breadth of teaching experience- largely in the Humanities.
My own interests are wide-ranging: in particular I love languages, travel and reading. This combination of interests has led me to undertake bike rides around Turkey (in the footsteps of Alexander the Great) and Uzbekistan (through the oasis cities of the Silk Road), and, more recently, a walk through Armenia.
As a tutor, I aim to increase a student's academic confidence and to instill in them a passion for learning which goes beyond school curricula.
