About Ben
I grew up in Bristol, UK, the eldest son of a Computer Science Professor (not my area of expertise ...)
If I am honest, one of my primary motivations for entering teaching was that I was not always very impressed with my own schooling !
Having worked in EFL / EAP in universities and language schools for a few years, I gained my PGCE in 2008 and worked in Primary and Secondary education, both in the UK and abroad, for the following 15 years.
COVID changed the paradigm - I came out of school teaching and tried something different. Tutoring gave me the opportunity to lose the institutionalised aspect of learning and to make it more of a personalised project.
Over the years, I have taught students from over 50 different countries - I love to travel and meet people from a variety of backgrounds.
I speak French, Spanish and Portuguese in addition to English - languages have always fascinated me.
I am a keen musician and sportsman - I play jazz piano, football and hockey (it is always nice to bond with students over these common passions and pursuits!)

My lessons are based on friendly rapport and are unashamedly conversational, as well as purposeful.
I take the time to find out what my students need and to get to know them - this helps to tailor lessons to mutual benefit.
I can be flexible with lesson timings - I find some students can focus for longer than others!
I have been teaching and tutoring for over 20 years in 6 different countries, spanning Primary through University and Adult education and across the age and ability range - I am happy to cater to a variety of needs.
