About James
I am a current Physics PhD student at the University of Oxford, where I also studied for my undergraduate Physics degree (during which I was awarded a scholarship for exam performance). As such, I am offering tuition in Physics up to degree level.
I have tutored first year Physics and Earth Sciences PhD students in advanced Applied Mathematics. This, coupled with the highly mathematical nature of my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, means I am also confident tutoring Mathematics up to Further Maths A-Level.
I am also happy to help Mathematics or Engineering undergraduate students looking for tuition in numerical computing in Python, or in MATLAB.
For the past two years, I have marked the Physics Aptitude Test (PAT) and so have an excellent understanding of the kind of questions to expect and how to go about answering them. I am therefore particularly well situated to help with students looking to apply for Oxford Physics or Engineering, as both will have to sit the PAT.
Outside of academia, I am a keen skier, and have the NZSIA Level 2 instructor qualification. I spend a couple of weeks a year instructing groups of schoolchildren age 11-18 and of all abilities near Salzburg in Austria.

I prefer to teach by working through problems together, beginning with simple problems to familiarise the student with the concepts and then moving into more difficult questions involving a bit more thought. Ultimately though, the teaching methodology I adopt will vary depending on the student, and I am more than happy to adapt to a students preferences.
