About Gavin
I am a Professor of Hindu Studies and Comparative Religion at Oxford University, a Senior Research Fellow at Campion Hall, Oxford, and Director of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies. I reached compulsory retirement age last year (67) but wish to continue teaching as I still have a lot to offer and find that my teaching feeds into my research and vice versa. My teaching is always informed by my research and so students have a sense of working at the cutting edge of knowledge. I can inspire confidence and have boundless enthusiasm for my subject.

As a professor at Oxford University, I've been teaching tutorials and lecturing at Oxford for many years and have published books in comparative religion, Hinduism, and Phenomenology. I bring this knowledge into my teaching. I guide students through complex material. Lessons are typically an hour (or fifty five minutes!) and are for university level students although I could tutor A level too. I offer empathetic teaching alongside the necessity of students gaining knowledge. So a typical class might me brainstorming the students knowledge of an area and then building a structure from there for our classes. Students express their ideas through weekly essays.
