About Julia
Motivated and up-beat, I am a student at Christ Church college Oxford, studying Philosophy and Linguistics, but my heart is still back in France where I completed secondary school.
I have been speaking French for over a decade, and in that time have often been an aid to my French teachers, serving as an example for pronunciation and helping my peers with translations and other exercises; I have coached at least three of my English speaking friends for their DELFs, all achieving either a B1 or a B2, and myself ranking at a C1.
I have practice with professional writing, as a translator for scientific articles, academic writing, as a student who graduated from a French speaking secondary school, and in colloquial speaking.

As cliche as it might be, I believe in learning languages the natural way, as we did when we were children. The best way to improve at a language is through constant exposure and practice, but more importantly, through passion. If you do not care for the language, speaking it will always be a chore, so my lessons are structured in a way that show how fun language learning can be, and all the opportunities that are open to you once you can speak it.
That being, all my classes are personally tailored to each student to match their own interests, and we begin, not with over-done and mundane vocabulary, but with videos and articles of actual interest to the student. With our example in hand, we work through reading or repeating to match the accent; we aim for general comprehension before word by word translations; and we end the lesson with a discussion (in French of course!) about what we just studied.
Depending on the goals of the student, lessons can be more or less magistral, and I am excited to work with the student to make a lesson that they enjoy and find useful!
