About James
I recently graduated fifth in my cohort with First Class Honours from Oxford University in Economics and Management. I studied Economics, Maths and Physics at A-Level and won the Economics Prize in Sixth Form.
ECONOMICS: I take a bottom-up approach to teaching economics, ensuring that my students understand the core fundamentals before delving into more complicated topics. I like to use lots of examples and encourage students to think of their own to ensure they will remember the concepts. At Oxford, I achieved First Class marks in 7/8 of my essay-based modules and as essay writing is a fundamental component of economics exams, I can offer tangible advice on how to write an essay (statements like "unpack the question" are incredibly vague and unhelpful).
MATHS: I achieved 100% in multiple A-Level Maths modules and many of my Oxford Economics modules had a strong mathematical basis. I also achieved an A* in GCSE Maths sitting the exam one year early. My approach to teaching Maths is similar to the way I teach Economics, despite the differences in the disciplines. I like to be sure my students understand the very basics before progressing - and when a student understands something, they will be far better placed to remember it.
I have also tutored Oxbridge Applicants to prepare them for the admissions tests and interviews.
