About Nathalie
Thank you for visiting my page! I have been giving music lessons for seven years, both in individual settings and larger classroom and school environments. Since September 2015 I have taught roughly 50 students (20 individually and the remainder in classes), primarily in Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hampshire, but also more recently abroad. I mainly work with children, but have enjoyed working with a small number of adult pupils and am very happy to take on more - it is never too late to learn! I recently completed my BA in Music at Oxford University (Magdalen College), for which I achieved first-class honours. Whilst in Oxford I enjoyed participating in various educational outreach projects there as well as giving private lessons (both in person and via video call) and regular concerts as part of my role as college music scholar. I have over a decade of experience working with children, and have received piano tuition from professors at the RAM, RCM, and RNCM. In terms of practical skills and qualifications, I have an ABRSM diploma in piano (distinction) and grades 3 - 8 (all distinction). I also have grade 8 violin, grade 7 flute, and have experience teaching children with special educational needs. I am fully DBS checked, and am currently in my second year at Cambridge studying Graduate Entry Medicine. Please do get in touch if you have any questions!

The methods I use for lessons vary according to age, capabilities, and interests of pupils. For instrumental lessons I like to incorporate a combination of musical skills alongside pieces to engage pupils, such as improvisation and composing, singing, and technical exercises where appropriate. Gaining a deeper understanding of how music works, both theoretically and contextually, is extremely important to building a skill-set as a musician and this features prominently within many of my lessons. The exam syllabi with which I am most familiar are those of ABRSM and Trinity, but I also have experience teaching Suzuki as well as various other (primarily group-based) methods. My goal as a tutor is to build confidence and ability but, most importantly, to share my enjoyment for music with others!

Perfect! Excellent lesson.
Perfect! Natalie has been great with out five year old, patient, fun and methodical.
Perfect! Nathalie taught our 10 year old son on the keyboard for the first time today. Nathalie made him feel relaxed from the very start and was clear in instruction and direction throughout the lesson. What was particularly nice is that she was patient with him and allowed him to be a bit creative, before bringing him back to the written music (which happened to be Harry Potter theme.. his favourite!). Webcam and sound clarity all good too. Highly recommended and our son is look very much forward to the next lesson.
