About Luke
I have over 12 years experience teaching secondary, sixth form and undergraduate level students. I did my undergraduate degree in Film Studies & English Literature at UWE Bristol, and then, inspired by the German Idealist philosophers of the 18th and 19th centuries, went on to a Masters in European Philosophy, also at UWE. My PhD looked deeply at the connections between the natural world, perception, and art as a way to mediate and explore the world around us.
My first ever teaching experience was actually giving guitar lessons as a teenager, and ever since then I have loved communicating with young people, very often being more inspired by their ideas than those I read in books.
I am trained in teaching both at individual and group level, having worked for many years as a teaching assistant in primary and secondary schools around Bristol.

I teach up to postgraduate level, specialising in Philosophy, Politics, Film, and Literature. I start with a brief overview of the topic, followed by co-creative activities, pauses for discussion and clarification, and ending with reflection. I call my conceptual development method shrink-wrapping, with the idea always present, and defined in deeper details as the learning trajectory progresses. My teaching approaches are participatory and democratic, adapting to the personal and pedagogical perspectives of each student.
