About Cherie
I am a full time artist working from my home based studio in Newcastle. I mostly paint commissioned portraits and paintings. I have a BA in Fine Arts with Honours, graduating in 2002. I moved to Newcastle and taught at Hunter Street TAFE for 8 years. I also had an art business for 2 years with a fellow artist, Newcastle Artworx which taught art to children and we had art birthday parties and did community art projects which were great fun. I also hold a certificate IV in workplace training and assessment. I really enjoy learning new skills and regularly go to workshops locally or overseas. I have been lucky to have painted in Florence and Tuscany, Italy. The experiences were amazing, I learnt a great deal and have been able to implement the new techniques into my work.

My teaching techniques are usually based on the wants and needs of my students, but I incorporate techniques to build their skills and the outcomes they desire. Afterall they are the ones paying for my knowledge so I want to help them achieve their goals, whatever that may be. The classes are casual and fun, but we learn a lot along the way. We move through the lessons We move through the lessons at the pace the students are comfortable with. I am happy to teach a group or one on one especially if they have a particular project they want to achieve. I have the ability to teach anything from anatomy, perspective, tone and form, rendering etc, anything to do with painting and drawing.
