About Rachel

I am a dedicated and caring Bachelor of Education (BEd) student currently completing my teaching internship at a well-known school in Durban North. I have a genuine passion for English, as well as helping young learners grow academically and develop confidence in their abilities.

My background as an au pair for four years, combined with my current classroom experience, allows me to support both the emotional and academic needs of learners. I am patient, calm, and approachable, which helps children feel comfortable and motivated during lessons. I also place strong emphasis on routine, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Above all - I love it when my students are enjoying the lesson. I aim to make learning enjoyable :)

I take pride in being professional, reliable, and well-prepared for each lesson. My goal is to support learners in understanding their schoolwork, building strong foundations in English and Mathematics, and developing a positive attitude towards learning in a safe and encouraging environment.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is learner-centred, patient, and encouraging. As a BEd student and current teaching intern, I understand that every person learns differently. I focus on building confidence first, as this creates a strong foundation for meaningful learning and long-term academic progress. I believe students learn best in a calm, supportive environment where they feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes.
I use age-appropriate methods, including guided practice, repetition, creative activities, and structure to help learners understand concepts rather than memorise them.

Each lesson is structured but flexible, depending on the learner’s needs. A typical lesson may include:
- Reviewing schoolwork or homework
- Breaking down difficult concepts into manageable steps
- Practising skills through guided exercises
- Encouragement, feedback, and confidence-building
My lessons are interactive, supportive, and paced according to the learner’s ability and goals.
