About Tess

I am a Biology tutor with over four years of experience and a Master’s degree in Microbiology, passionate about bridging traditional biology with the power of computation. My teaching integrates bioinformatics and computational biology into everyday biological practice, making sense of the massive genomic and proteomic datasets that drive modern research. I guide students step by step through essential concepts like sequence alignment algorithms, phylogenetic tree construction, and the interpretation of complex biological data. In my lessons, students gain hands-on experience with tools like NCBI, BLAST, and other widely used bioinformatics platforms. I break down how these resources work, showing not just the “how” but also the “why” behind every search and analysis. This approach helps students and researchers build the confidence to explore real data sets independently. I have worked extensively with university students and early-career researchers who want to strengthen their computational biology skills. Whether they are tackling coursework, projects, or research papers, I provide clear guidance and tailored support. Each lesson is interactive, combining theory with practical demonstrations to ensure understanding sticks. By the end, my students don’t just learn methods—they gain the ability to think critically about data and apply it to real biological questions. My goal is to help every learner grow into a well-rounded and confident biologist with strong computational abilities.

My teaching profile is built on the belief that Biology should feel alive, not overwhelming. I create warm, storytelling-based lessons that turn even the most complex biological processes into relatable, memorable concepts. For students struggling with tricky terminology or feeling lost in dense material, I break topics into clear, engaging narratives that make sense step by step. My sessions cover a broad spectrum of Biology, from fascinating organisms and groundbreaking scientific discoveries to ethical considerations in research and the many career paths in the life sciences. I use visual aids, interactive diagrams, and carefully chosen videos to bring each lesson to life. Every concept is paired with a discussion, ensuring students not only learn facts but also understand the bigger picture behind them. I’m particularly skilled at guiding those with a Researcher’s curiosity or an Industrial Chemist’s mindset, helping them dive deeper and stay motivated. My approach is interactive—I encourage questions, spark debates, and challenge students to think critically about what they see and read. Each lesson is designed for deep engagement and swift progress, turning challenges into “aha!” moments. Whether we’re exploring cell biology, genetics, or the ethical dilemmas in modern science, I aim to make every session exciting and relevant. With the right guidance, Biology becomes more than a subject—it becomes a journey of discovery.
