About Tom
Education drives the future, and it is something I am deeply passionate about. This inspired me to start work as an academic tutor five years ago, and also to found an educational charity that now provides training to other teachers, in order to foster the enjoyment and outcomes of their pupils, and also enjoy teaching more themselves. I am also a governor of two schools. Despite working as a software engineer, focusing on machine learning, the energy I derive from tutoring has spurred me to pursue teaching outside my job, and I remain fascinated by science and maths. I take a fervent academic interest in pedagogy and genuinely care about the students I work with. Having gained 3 A*s at A level, studied Chemistry at a world top ten university (Imperial College) and recently published my first peer-reviewed scientific paper, I know what is required to succeed academically, and how to gain the underlying skills that will not only ensure success in exams, but beyond them, in any exciting work and projects my students undertake in the future.

I have tutored with over 100 families over five years, gaining valuable experience of a plethora of learning styles, confidence levels and personalities. I have coached students to gain entry to Oxbridge and Imperial, but I am also very proud to have helped many students struggling with subjects to harness their abilities and improve significantly. At the core of my approach is an emphasis on students gaining a solid understanding of the key skills that underpin subjects. Anyone can read out a textbook to a student. What I do is focus on areas like problem solving, logical progression, visualisation and abstraction, alongside fundamental study techniques.
