About Synthia

I’m a Canadian English tutor with a strong background in communication, academic writing, and student support. I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, majoring in Media and Journalism with minors in Creative Writing and Literature & Film Studies. My academic essays and articles have been award-nominated and published, and I genuinely enjoy both reading and writing. Supporting students in developing their own love for language is one of my favorite parts of teaching. I’ve worked in professional writing-focused roles where clarity, editing, and effective communication were core parts of my daily work. I also have hands-on experience tutoring elementary-school ESL learners, providing homework support and helping them build confidence in reading, vocabulary, and self-expression. I bring patience, structure, and encouragement to every lesson. My goal is to make English feel approachable and enjoyable while giving students the tools they need to succeed academically and in everyday communication. I work with learners of all ages and levels and create a calm, judgment-free space where progress feels natural, supportive, and achievable.

About the lesson

My name is Synthia, and my lessons are calm, structured, and completely tailored to your needs.
I believe students learn best when they feel supported, understood, and never rushed — so I teach with patience, encouragement, and simple step-by-step explanations.

My teaching methodology

I break down concepts into small, manageable steps

I help students build confidence through gentle correction and positive reinforcement

I adapt my pace to each learner’s personality and goals

I use real examples, everyday language, and guided practice to make learning feel natural

I focus on helping you understand the language, not just memorize it

A typical lesson with me

Every lesson is personalized, but usually includes:

Warm-up conversation (5 minutes)
– Builds comfort, pronunciation, and fluency

Skills focus (20–30 minutes)
– ESL: vocabulary, grammar, conversation practice
– Reading: comprehension, analysis, guided reading
– Writing: structure, clarity, editing, essay support

Practice exercises (10–15 minutes)
– Short writing tasks, speaking prompts, or reading questions

Feedback + next steps (5 minutes)
– Clear, gentle suggestions you can apply immediately

My goal is always to help you leave every session feeling more confident than when you started.

What sets me apart as a tutor

I create a stress-free, judgment-free learning environment

I’m warm, patient, and great at explaining difficult ideas

I work with all learning styles (visual, auditory, step-by-step thinkers, anxious learners)

I have strong writing and communication skills, which help students improve quickly

I make lessons personal, so they never feel boring or overwhelming

Who my lessons are for

I teach:

ESL learners of all levels (beginner to advanced)

Children and teens who need help with reading or school English

High school students who want to improve essays, grammar, or writing skills

University students needing support with academic writing

Adults who want better conversation confidence, pronunciation, or everyday English

Creative writers looking for gentle guidance and clarity

Whether your goal is better grades, clearer writing, stronger speaking skills, or everyday confidence with English, I will guide you at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive.
