About Trevor
Hello! I am a senior Mechanical Engineering student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and I love making math and physics make sense to students who feel stuck.
My academic background is rooted heavily in advanced mathematics, classical mechanics, and physical systems. But beyond my own coursework, teaching is a huge part of my daily life. I currently work within the university's engineering department as an Instructional Student Assistant and grader. Working directly alongside professors to evaluate student work has given me a unique look at exactly where students struggle, why they get tripped up on exams, and how to fix those habits.
Before finding my passion for engineering, I competed as a Division 1 college swimmer. High-level athletics taught me everything I know about discipline, breaking large goals down into daily steps, and maintaining a positive attitude under pressure—traits that I bring directly into my tutoring sessions to help students build confidence.
Whether you are looking to get ahead in your AP classes, struggling to keep up with a fast-paced college syllabus, or just trying to survive calculus, I’m here to help. I pride myself on being patient, structured, and easy to talk to. Let's team up and get those grades where you want them to be!

My Teaching Philosophy: Concept First, Equations Second
I don't believe in forcing students to memorize formulas they don’t understand. In my experience, the biggest breakthrough happens when a student can visualize why a physics concept or math equation works in the real world. Once the intuition makes sense, the math becomes much easier.
What a Typical Lesson Looks Like:
The 5-Minute Pulse Check: We start by identifying exactly where you are feeling stuck—whether it’s a confusing homework problem, a foundational concept, or upcoming exam anxiety.
Breaking It Down: We strip away the textbook jargon. I use real-world analogies, visual sketches, and step-by-step breakdowns to make complex topics digestible.
Active Problem Solving: I don't just do the work for you. We solve problems together, gradually shifting the driver's seat over to you so you build genuine confidence.
The "Grader's Perspective": Because I have experience working directly with university professors to grade engineering and math coursework, I know exactly what instructors look for. I will teach you how to organize your work clearly so you can maximize partial credit on exams, even if you make a calculation error.
Who I Teach:
I specialize in helping high school and college students navigate Algebra, Calculus, Physics, and introductory Engineering mechanics. Whether you are trying to pull a C up to a B, or prepping to ace an AP exam, my goal is to provide an encouraging, zero-judgment space where you can ask any question you want.
