About Ian
I am a patient and motivated Piano tutor with 8 years of teaching experience, guiding students at all skill levels. Over this period, I have successfully taught around 150 students, helping them improve technical skills and musical awareness.
My teaching philosophy focuses on clarity, consistency, and encouragement. Lessons are adapted to each student’s pace and goals. Beginners work on posture, rhythm, finger technique, and note reading. Advanced learners focus on coordination, expression, and performance skills. I believe music theory and ear training are essential for long-term growth.
These elements are included in lessons along with sight-reading. I also guide students on effective practice routines. My unique ability is simplifying difficult concepts and keeping students motivated. I create a supportive learning environment where students feel confident. My aim is to help students become expressive and confident pianists.

My approach to teaching Piano focuses on Adaptation to Learning Styles, Flexibility, Collaboration, and Positivity. I aim to make piano learning clear, enjoyable, and encouraging for students of all levels.
I start with essential skills such as correct posture, finger placement, rhythm control, and note reading. These are practiced through guided exercises and level-appropriate pieces. As students improve, I introduce scales, chords, dynamics, and expressive techniques. Flexibility allows lessons to move at a comfortable pace.
Collaboration helps students feel involved in their learning. I maintain open communication and encourage students to share their preferences and questions. Students are guided in choosing music they enjoy, which builds motivation.
Positivity shapes my teaching environment. I motivate students with patience, encouragement, and regular feedback. Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities. In addition to piano, I teach music theory basics, rhythm skills, ear training, and musical understanding. My goal is to build confident and happy piano learners.
