About James
I began to learn piano with the great uncle of Princess Diana who introduced me to the classical repertoire as a child. In 1983 I gained a place at St. Mary´s Specialist Music School in Edinburgh. I then won scholarships for studies in Germany and the USA. Later, I completed an Mmus and Phd in music. Since 1986 I have performed professionally, giving professional recitals around Europe and in the USA. My most recent performance was a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 last Summer. I began my teaching career in 1994 at Sussex University and then taught at both Oxford and Oxford-Brookes University between 1995-98. From then on I developed a close artistic relationship with Norway and spent several years teaching and working above the Arctic Circle. I am now based at home in Aberdeenshire where I have a large piano room, grand piano and keyboard and an extensive library of piano music.

My lessons can be 30,45 or 90 minutes long. I charge 16 pounds for half and hour and 32 pounds for an hour. Over three decades I have taught all levels of piano students. I have taught advanced postgraduate music conservatory students, university students and young beginners. I taught for many years at various Cultural Schools in Norway and my pupils ranged from the age of six to their late-seventies. My background is in classical music but I have extensive teaching in all musical genres. The lessons and piano courses are tailored to the needs of each individual pupil. I am a thorough yet very patient and good humoured teacher.
