About Orlando
I am a current PhD candidate at the University of Exeter’s Centre for Medical Mycology. Here, I am researching the impact of microbes and parasites on the epithelium of the gut, and the immune system.
As part of my career ambition, I’d love to be a professor in the future and am taking this first step into teaching. I have a teaching qualification (Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, gained 2024) which has set up a strong basis for tutoring and mentoring. I am also a career mentor for undergraduates at my previous university.
I did an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences in London, followed by two years working in industry before completing an MRes in Medical Mycology and Fungal Immunology.

I take a very personal and hands-on approach, working with my students to identify any areas they need to focus on, whilst also ensuring that their knowledge is not compromised elsewhere. School exams are a huge challenge, and I work with my students to make sure that they are well prepared, confident and happy with their learning experience.
