About James
Transitioning from research positions at Argonne and Berkeley Lab allowed me to focus exclusively on helping ambitious undergraduates navigate complex chemical concepts. My academic journey culminated in a PhD in Computational Chemistry from Caltech, which informs my deep understanding of organic chemistry, electrochemistry, and numerical problem solving. These 7 years of experience have sharpened my ability to simplify equation balancing, acid and base reactions, and the mole concept into manageable steps for students.
Teaching allows me to share the rigorous conceptual learning I utilized throughout my career while maintaining a personal connection with those aiming for chemistry degrees. Supporting students through challenging coursework remains a primary focus of my professional life. I enjoy seeing the moment a student connects abstract theory with practical application.

Visualizing molecular interactions requires a clear mental map of the underlying physics and thermodynamics. During our time together, I utilize my background in computational modeling to break down conceptual learning into logical sequences that match your specific course syllabus.
My 7 years of experience at top national laboratories ensure that I can guide you through complex problem solving with precision and clarity. We will integrate mock tests with error analysis before exams to ensure that you are fully prepared to handle the most difficult questions on your assessments. These rigorous sessions rely on the same methodology I perfected while earning my PhD at Caltech. Finding the right path through a difficult chemistry problem is genuinely rewarding for me.
