About Dr Chintan

I am a Civil Engineer specializing in Transportation Engineering with a PhD. Teaching is my passion, and I excel at conveying mathematical concepts at both the university and school levels.

With over 10 years of teaching experience, I have developed a keen ability to identify and address students' needs, often before they are even aware of them. Math is fundamental to engineering, and I am proficient in a wide range of mathematical topics.

My patience and clear communication skills are key strengths that contribute to my effectiveness as a tutor.

I primarily work with high school and university students, offering comprehensive tutoring services from Grade 8 to Post-Graduate engineering students.

I am well-versed in online/web-based tutoring and currently teach students from Queensland, NSW, Victoria, and Tasmania. Additionally, I tutor university students from various countries, including the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, and India.

My excellent oratory skills and subject clarity have consistently helped my students achieve outstanding results.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Teaching has been my passion since my childhood. I grew up helping my younger brother in guiding with his subjects. I have gained my teaching skills from my mother who is involved in private tutoring for more than 25 years. With her experience, I realised that persistent learning and updating oneself with the latest knowledge is the key to being a good tutor. As I have always thrived to seek knowledge in various subjects, I aspired to become a private tutor.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I have been involved in private tutoring for more than 8 years. In this duration, I have taught many subjects at school and graduate level subjects. Civil Engineering being my field of study, I show a keen interest in teaching Civil Engineering subjects. Meanwhile, I completed my Masters and currently pursuing P.H.D. in the field of Transportation Engineering and so working and teaching software/subjects regarding this subject highly interest me. Apart from these, I had been tutoring school level subjects especially Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subjects and I always enjoy teaching these subjects as they are fundamental to any engineering field. In the modern era software skills are the key to any professional job and I have mastered my skills in using various software’s especially programming in Python and MATLAB and have been recently involved in teaching these subjects. However, literature and language subjects don’t attract me much and I prefer to avoid teaching these subjects. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from my past and current students always inspires me to work harder and give my best to the subjects I teach.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I have several role models since my childhood, most of them being my school or university teachers/Professors. I learned working smartly from my maths teacher who never failed to fascinate me with a new trick to solve the problems in a quick and efficient way. Since then, I developed a practice to think first and then act on the problem. The professor from my graduate course taught me how hard work and perseverance can take you much ahead in your life. My supervisors are/have been my role model as I learned several skills such as multitasking, time-management, soft skills and maintaining relations.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

According to me, a good tutor is one who is very well prepared for the subject that he teaches. I have developed a practice of working several hours for the subject before I teach them. This helps me to work on the various ways in which I can teach the topics. Another important aspect according to me is the ability of a teacher to teach with the practical examples and make it relate to real world problems. A student can learn a topic easily if he/she is able to visualise what he/she learns and hence it is essential to relate with the real world problems. Lastly, a healthy relationship between a student and teacher is something that makes learning fun and interesting hence I believe a good tutor should possess good communication and psychological skills so that he can relate the problem and solve it in a way that a student can understand.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember a very important anecdote from my school days that changed my life in the ways that I never thought could be, I had been doing extremely well in the maths and science related subjects since my childhood. It was once in my grade 8 that I received a very low score in mathematics subjects. The problem wasn’t about me not knowing the subject but rather was being over-confident about it. Most of my questions had the correct method adopted, but I made mistakes in trivial calculations and steps. This is when I learned the importance of precision and working calmly and attentively with the questions/subjects. Since then I have been doing great with various subjects and this small incident helped me to shape my way of learning.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

For long, I haven’t been teaching any new subjects but in the initial stages it’s always a bit challenging as I am not always completely aware of all the topics of the subject. However, with experience and technical support it's easy now to review or learn a topic that has been newly introduced or I haven’t studied. As I have teaching experience in my home country, the course structure in Australia/other countries varies depending on the university and hence it sometimes becomes challenging to clearly define the scope to which the detail of the topic should be restricted.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I possess a keen interest in learning software and their applications. I possess detailed theoretical knowledge on most of the subjects I teach. However, each day new software are introduced based on the application and I really love learning as much as I can. Teaching is my hobby and not an element of my subject. I believe in sharing knowledge as it helps me learn a lot of new content as well. It helps me look into various aspects of the subject and I find myself learning more about it each day.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions 😜)?

A Superprof isn’t a one who possess the best knowledge on the subject. I believe I may not be knowing entirely about the subject and there might be tutors that are more knowledgeable than me, but I do know how to make a subject understandable to a student in a way that works best for the student in the simplest way. This attribute I believe makes me a Superprof and I am stating this based on the recommendations and reviews from my past students to whom I have guided and are doing well in their studies.
