About George
Hi there! I’m George — a PhD-qualified mathematics educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience across universities, schools, and one-to-one tutoring.
What I enjoy most is helping students move from frustration, confusion, or self-doubt towards genuine understanding and confidence. I’ve spent much of my life studying not only mathematics itself, but how people learn it — especially why math can feel difficult, intimidating, or overwhelming.
My background includes mathematics, physics, and mathematics education, and I’ve taught at universities in both Sydney and Perth in roles including tutor, lecturer, unit coordinator, and mathematics learning adviser.
My style is warm, thoughtful, and intellectually engaged. I work best with students who are curious, reflective, and ready to develop stronger mathematical thinking — whether they’re catching up, getting ahead, returning to study, or simply wanting math to feel less mysterious.

My lessons are highly personalized, collaborative, and focused on genuine understanding. Rather than simply demonstrating solutions, I work closely with students to understand why certain concepts feel difficult and how we can build stronger mathematical thinking from the ground up.
I generally work with older secondary students, university students, and adult learners who want deeper understanding, enrichment, acceleration, or support developing confidence in mathematics.
Lessons typically involve:
• breaking difficult mathematical concepts into manageable pieces
• identifying the source of misunderstandings
• developing problem-solving strategies
• improving mathematical communication
• building confidence, independence, and resilience
While I can support many school-level and university-level topics, my real strength is helping students learn how to think mathematically — not just how to copy a method for one particular question.
I also draw on research-informed ideas from mathematics education, metacognition, growth mindset, and math anxiety. While I’m not a registered psychologist, I do bring substantial experience helping students understand and improve the way they approach learning mathematics.

Details
I offer a free 30-minute consultation, either in person or online. This is a relaxed fit-check rather than a formal lesson: we’ll discuss your goals, current materials, learning habits, and whether my approach is right for you.
For regular lessons, the first hour is $100. Additional time in the same session is $50 per hour.
Ongoing lessons are tailored to your needs and typically include targeted practice, conceptual development, and scaffolded homework to build independence and resilience.
I’m happy to discuss pack options or adjusted arrangements depending on your goals, frequency, and circumstances — especially for students who are a strong fit for my style.
