About Shay
I am a scientist and educator with several years of experience teaching and mentoring high school and university students. I hold a PhD in environmental sciences and have worked in both academic research and education settings, including mentoring students in the International Biology Olympiad program. I take my work seriously, prepare carefully for each student, and aim to create a supportive, respectful learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress. I have a strong background in biology, physics, and quantitative subjects, and I teach both high school and undergraduate students.
My approach focuses on clarity, patience, and reducing the stress many students feel around math and science. I pay close attention to how students think and where anxiety or confusion appears, and I work to remove those barriers so learning becomes more efficient and confidence grows.
A typical lesson starts with the material the student is currently working on and the exact points where things stop making sense. We go through examples together, break problems into clear steps, and practice until the student can apply the ideas independently.
In online lessons, I use shared whiteboards and screen-sharing tools to write, draw diagrams, and work through calculations together in real time. The pace is adjusted to build solid understanding while also keeping the student moving toward better performance and results.
My lessons are suited for high school students in math, physics, chemistry, and natural sciences, as well as undergraduate students who want deeper understanding or support in quantitative courses.
