About Qinyi
Hi, I am Qinyi, a mathematician and statistician educated at the University of Oxford, where I completed a DPhil (PhD) in Statistics in 2020, specialising in statistical machine learning. Prior to this, I earned a Distinction in MSc in Applied Statistics at Oxford and a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics from Imperial College London. My doctoral studies were fully funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). During my PhD, I have published my papers in world-class journals and conferences. I have also served as a reviewer for many leading Machine Learning conferences, including ICML, NeurIPS and AISTATS (awarded top reviewer for 2023), and the Journal of Machine Learning Research (JMLR).
I studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme before joining university, achieving 45 points (Full Mark) plus 7 points in the additional subject Further Maths.

All of my lessons are structured to meet students' needs. My approach focuses on building strong foundations, breaking down complex ideas, fostering a deep understanding and establishing confidence not only in his/her exams, but also in any future academic and career path they wish to take.
During my PhD, I worked as a teaching assistant for applied statistics modules and statistics computing lab sessions. At my college, Wadham, I also worked as a Graduate Study Skills adviser, helping undergraduate students with their study skills and exam preparation.
I am happy to tutor students with any background or ability. I specialised in tutoring Maths and Further Maths for GCSE and A-Level, as well as IB Maths at SL and HL. I am also happy to tutor the university entrance exams, MAT and TMUA. My fees are as follows.
Fees:
- For GCSE Maths and IB Middle Year Programme Maths, £80 per hour.
- For A-Level Maths, Further Maths and IB HL and SL Maths, £100 per hour.
- For University entrance exams, MAT and TMUA, £120 per hour.
The typical lesson length is 1 hour. The first class (30 minutes) is an introduction and consultation to determine your needs and aims, and it's free.
