About Toby
I have always believed that everyone has the ability to understand maths and physics if they are presented with a variety of perspectives on a concept - the trick is finding the right one!
I have tutored students since my undergraduate, with a variety of levels ranging from KS3 through to first year undergraduate. During my undergraduate, I took part in a buddy programme, tutoring a group of 5 first year students in maths and physics. In the year in-between my masters and PhD studies, I spent 6 months at Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School tutoring A-level students, whilst teaching KS3-4 students in the evening at two different tutoring companies.
These experiences, alongside my academic studies, have not just given me a deep understanding of mathematical and physical concepts, but also many different ways to convey this knowledge to students at all different stages of their academic journey.

I split my sessions into two parts. The first part focuses on building intuition and true understanding of mathematical and physical concepts. This will involve drawing lots of pictures and obtaining a visual understanding of concepts relating to the real world.
The second half is the practical element - solving problems and building up a bank of tools and techniques. We will work through some problems together and some individually, to build up confidence in applying these skills yourself.
In order to excel in exams, I believe that it is important to develop both of these parts equally, so that you not only have the tools but understand them at a fundamental level in order to correctly identify the situations in which they are used.
