About Anna

I am a current PhD student, with a Master of International Affairs and an AB in biology. As an undergraduate, I worked for three years as a Writing Center tutor assisting my peers with all stages of the writing process. Since then, I've volunteered periodically to provide literacy training to adult learners and ESL students.

About the lesson

1. Tutoring in academic and professional writing. Any discipline, including technical subjects. Support for research papers, including guidance on how to structure and organize a literature search. Tutoring provided based on student needs and interests – often structured around a specific essay that a student has for a class, or a job application, but tutoring sessions can also be focused on specific writing skills that a student wants to develop (e.g., proof-reading or outlining).
Who? Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professionals. All skill and experience levels.
When? Can be one-time/as-needed for specific projects or ongoing tutoring, depending on interest and needs of the student.
What? Support at any and every stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to teaching you how to edit your own work and produce a polished final product.
What is it not? I will not write or edit your paper for you – but I will teach you how to approach writing projects on your own and help build your skills as a writer.

2. Reading and literacy tutoring. Support to improve reading comprehension and literacy.
Who? Adolescents, adult learners and/or people for whom English is not their first language
When? Can be one-time/as-needed for specific projects or ongoing tutoring, depending on interest and needs of the student.
What? Provide structured set-up for practicing reading comprehension, with topics, genres, and complexity based on student needs and interests.
