About Ethan
I'm a PhD student in English at the University of Toronto, where I work as a teaching assistant and research assistant. My own research focuses on early modern, modernist, and contemporary literature.
I earned my MA in English from U of T in 2024, and my BA (Honours First Class with Distinction) from Simon Fraser University in 2022.
I have also worked for 9 years as an academic tutor for private companies and university writing centres. I have worked with students from middle school to graduate school, focusing on English writing, reading comprehension, literary analysis, and forms and genres of academic writing. I hold "Master Tutor" certification from the College Reading and Learning Association.
I'm an avid reader and writer, and I'm always excited to learn about what students are working on in various subjects.

I can offer you my expertise in literature and my experience as an academic writing tutor, and I'm always happy to offer general advice for both graduate and undergraduate education.
I'm always happy (and excited) to chat about literature, so if you could use some help developing ideas for a lit essay, or just want to discuss something you've read, get in touch!
When it comes to tutoring writing, my goal is simple: you should leave feeling less reliant on tutoring, and more self-sufficient as a writer. Some tutors promise results they cannot guarantee; I promise only what I can actually deliver: personalized advice and feedback that will help you improve your writing and achieve specific goals.
I believe in a conversational, tailored approach to tutoring, not a one-size-fits-all approach. Every writer is different, and the best way for me to help you is by getting to know you, your work, and your goals. I can help students from middle school to university with their grammar, style, and structure, and through conversation, we can deepen your thinking and strengthen your arguments. With 8 years of tutoring experience and several degrees in literature, I can provide bespoke guidance to help you build confidence and autonomy as a reader and writer, do better in courses, and write more clearly for any audience.
After getting to know you and your needs, I will suggest some work we can do to meet your goals, from written feedback on your writing to reading and discussion exercises and more.
