About Nadja
My background
I hold an MA and an MPhil in Philosophy and am currently completing a PhD in Philosophy at UCL. I also have a doctorate in music (composition) from the Royal College of Music in London, as well as a BA and MA in music. At UCL, I also teach undergraduate seminars in both philosophy and academic writing. My duties include marking essays, which gives me an excellent understanding of what examiners look for — and how students can meet (and exceed) those expectations.
My goal as a tutor
To help students develop the skills, confidence, and intellectual curiosity that allow them not only to succeed academically but to enjoy the process of thinking and writing genuinely. I love seeing students discover their own voice and confidence as philosophers or essay writers and seeing the joy of thinking emerge - this is why I teach. My teaching style is warm, clearly structured and highly interactive. The goal is always to help students feel supported while also challenging them to become independent learners and thinkers.

I am an experienced philosophy and essay writing tutor with a deep passion for helping students think clearly and critically, write confidently, and enjoy the learning process. I tailor my lessons to each student’s needs, strengths, and goals, and I work with learners of all levels — from GCSE and A level to university (undergraduate and postgraduate) and independent adult learners. Lessons are usually 1 hour long.
Philosophy tutoring
I teach students how to read philosophy like a philosopher: attentively, critically, and with an eye for argument structure. Together, we learn how to approach complex texts, identify key claims, raise objections, and develop thoughtful counterarguments. I always begin from the student’s own interests, helping them build both confidence and intellectual independence.
Essay writing tutoring
I teach the entire essay writing process, from understanding the question and researching with purpose to planning, structuring, and developing a clear, scholarly writing style. Depending on the student, this may include:
• breaking down complex readings
• forming original arguments
• improving clarity and precision
• writing under timed conditions
• polishing essays for coursework or exams
Neurodivergent-friendly teaching
I have experience supporting neurodivergent learners (ADHD/autism/dyslexia) and can adapt lessons to suit different processing styles, sensory needs, and executive-function challenges.
