My university research is primarily on accessibility, and thus, I believe that it is important to meet students where they are, and lead with generosity, empathy, and patience. Every student has different needs, and unique strengths, and I feel confident in my capacities to identify these and tailor my approach accordingly. I typically like to start lessons with short check-ins: how is the student feeling about their work? What would they like to improve? Following this, my lesson plans vary by level (a reading and writing lesson for an elementary student will be different than one for a Cegep student). There are formal aspects, like spelling or grammar, and there are content-based aspects, like reading comprehension or how to communicate effectively. As someone who benefited from accommodations throughout my academic career, I believe my knowledge of accessibility, and my unique perspective into learning, sets me apart as a teacher. I understand that what we bring to our learning is just as important as what we take from it. I tailor my lessons to student's grade level, classwork, as well as their specific needs. I can teach students from elementary, up to CEGEP level.
