About Gail
For over ten years, I was a full-time substitute teacher in K-5th grade classrooms. Though my degree is not in teaching, I was offered long-term sub jobs, and enjoyed my time in the public school system. Following this, I taught in a private homeschool co-op for a year and then progressed to become an online tutor when the school had to close down. I was a homeschool mom myself for over five years, and have extensive knowledge in phonics through my own studies, teaching in school, and homeschooling my own kids. My knowledge in this area grows weekly, and I make much effort to keep my sessions engaging and fun for my students.

My focus on tutoring in reading relies heavily on phonics, but also encompasses vocabulary, spelling, and writing as supportive activities. I follow an order of teaching phonics that I know has worked best for all my past students. I love to incorporate hands-on activities and games in my sessions, and prefer splitting up sessions for younger students into thirty-minute increments. My main focus is on K-5th grade, though I have tutored middle and junior high students as well.
