About Hazel

I am a Physics tutor with over four years of teaching experience and an MPhil in Physics. My approach is holistic and interdisciplinary, blending the science of physics with the art of conservation. I focus on how light interacts with pigments, the analysis of materials, and the principles behind art restoration. Using art historical examples, I help students understand the physical properties that make artworks unique. I emphasise non-destructive testing techniques to study paintings and sculptures without causing damage. My sessions explore the science behind conservation methods, from pigment stability to material ageing. I work with art history students, aspiring conservationists, and anyone curious about the physics of cultural heritage. Together, we investigate how physical principles can inform restoration decisions and preserve artistic masterpieces. I use clear explanations, hands-on examples, and case studies from real artworks. Every lesson encourages questions and fosters critical thinking about both art and science. By connecting theory to practice, students gain a deeper appreciation of both disciplines. My goal is to make physics accessible, engaging, and directly relevant to the world of art. I love guiding learners to see how science protects and reveals the stories behind masterpieces.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students excel in Physics and related subjects like AP Physics, Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics. I emphasise a clear understanding of concepts first, ensuring students grasp the fundamentals before moving to complex topics. Problem-solving is central to my methodology, so I guide students through step-by-step solutions and different solving strategies. We practise targeted drills regularly to strengthen weak areas and build speed. Practice tests are used frequently to simulate exam conditions and identify areas that need improvement. I focus on connecting Physics with mathematics, making formulae and calculations easier to understand. I also include real-life examples and Sci-Fi-inspired scenarios to make learning engaging. Each session is designed to be interactive, encouraging questions and discussions. Exam strategies, including time management and multiple-choice techniques, are also taught. Assignments and review exercises are tailored to reinforce concepts effectively. My approach builds confidence, reduces exam anxiety, and prepares students for high scores. Every student receives personal attention to ensure they understand, retain, and can apply knowledge. My goal is to make learning Physics exciting, clear, and rewarding.
