About Hunter
Hi, I’m Hunter! I’ve been playing piano since age 10. I started with classical and eventually switched into jazz during my undergrad at UNC Chapel Hill, where I graduated with a B.M. in piano performance. I’ve picked up several instruments along the way and have gigged professionally in jazz groups, rock/metal bands, singer-songwriter duos, and more. Beyond performance, I’ve spent a lot of time over the years composing in various genres. I have several works published that include classical piano recordings, orchestral compositions, electronic music, and jazz. My primary job for the last ten years has been teaching gymnastics, both competitive and recreational. So I really enjoy working with kids, as well as adults of any age. Outside of music, my biggest passions lately have been aerial (silks, straps, and sling), juggling, and dance. I recently stepped into that world of performing and have been absolutely loving it!

As a teacher, I enjoy using a variety of approaches tailored to each student’s goals and how they best learn. Everyone has different interests and strengths, and I find students most enjoy and grow from their lessons when we can hone in on those things while still building a solid technical foundation. I've always had an interdisciplinary approach to my own music and see it work well with my students. We'll find what works best for you and build on it!
I am confident in teaching classical, jazz, blues, pop, singer-songwriter, electronic music, and more. We'll learn through a tailored mix of music theory, composition, production, improv, and group skills.

Hunter is awesome and super knowledgeable about all aspects of piano and a wide range of styles. He has helped me get up and running with basics and kept me engaged and excited for what is to come. Looking forward to the rest of my year learning from him!
Every lesson feels structured yet encouraging, and he has a great way of breaking down complex techniques into simple, manageable steps. The thing that stands out the most with Hunter is how supportive and motivating he is.
Hunter is one of the greatest musicians I have personally seen and played with that doesn’t have a massive following. I say this not because he is my brother, but due to the amazing performances he’s given and the things he’s taught me over many years. I’ve played in multiple bands with him and had to try my hardest just to keep up. I’ve been playing live music for about 8 years. In addition to being an awesome piano teacher, he is also a skilled vocalist, bassist, guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer. He is capable of jamming and immersing in music theory within a variety of musical styles.
Hunter is an excellent piano teacher! He is kind and patient and his lessons are fun and very rewarding. He has a lot of expertise and is very passionate. He tailors lessons to the interests and skill level of the student. I can’t recommend Hunter enough as a piano instructor!
