About Galen
With over 9 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Piano in Music Education, I help students grow both musically and personally. I believe learning piano should feel exciting, not overwhelming. My approach uses gentle pacing, clear guidance, and plenty of encouragement to keep progress steady and joyful. We celebrate milestone goals together, whether it’s performing at a first recital, composing an original song, or finally mastering a favorite piece. Each accomplishment builds confidence and keeps motivation high. I create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable exploring new skills. My lessons balance technique, creativity, and personal expression, allowing each student to develop their unique musical voice. I adapt every lesson to fit the student’s needs, making sure learning stays both fun and meaningful. Watching my students succeed and gain confidence is my greatest reward. In my piano lessons, I guide students to connect deeply with music while building strong technical skills. We begin with proper technique, finger strength, and fluid motion to create ease at the keys. I introduce composition basics early, helping students create their own melodies and understand how music is built.
For those who enjoy rich harmonies and improvisation, we explore harmonic analysis and chord progressions. This allows students to understand the structure behind both classical pieces and jazz standards. We also focus on music storytelling, teaching how to express emotions through phrasing, dynamics, and timing.
Emotional touch is at the heart of my approach. I help students bring out the mood of each piece, whether it's the elegance of classical works or the groove of jazz improvisation. Each lesson is adapted to fit the student’s pace and goals, offering both structure and creative freedom.
I support those aiming for polished performances as well as those who wish to explore their creative voice. Together, we build confidence, skill, and a lifelong love for music.
