  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in mathematics started in 8th grade when a teacher showed us how algebra could predict patterns in card tricks. It stopped feeling like “homework” and started feeling like a superpower. The tutoring bug bit me in college. A friend was failing calculus and asked for help 2 days before the exam. We spent 6 hours breaking it down into bite-sized pieces, and she scored a B. Seeing that lightbulb moment was addictive. I realized I loved teaching one-on-one more than anything else because you see the impact immediately.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

I teach Mathematics, from Class 8 foundation to JEE Advanced and college-level Calculus.
*Topics I love discussing*: Calculus, Probability, and Coordinate Geometry. Calculus because it’s where students finally see math “move” and connect to physics, economics, even biology. I also love problem-solving sessions where we take a scary JEE problem and dismantle it together.
*Topics I like a little less*: Honestly, mensuration formulas. They’re necessary, but they’re more memory than intuition. So I try to make them visual: we derive volume using water bottles or 3D software instead of rote learning.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my Class 11 math teacher, Mr. Sharma. He never said “this is easy.” He’d say “this is tricky, but here’s how we’ll beat it.” He taught us to respect difficult problems instead of fearing them. He also stayed back after school for anyone who wanted to ask doubts, no ego. That shaped how I tutor today: patience first, and never make a student feel dumb for asking.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    Three things:
    - *Clarity*: If you can’t explain it to a 12-year-old, you don’t know it well enough.
    - *Adaptability*: Every student learns differently. Some need stories, some need visuals, some need 20 practice problems. A good tutor switches modes fast.
    - *Empathy*: You’re teaching the student, not the syllabus. If they had a bad day or math anxiety, forcing another integration problem won’t help. You pause, reset, rebuild confidence, then continue.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

In Class 10, I was convinced I’d failed my board pre-mock in math. I got a 42/100. I went home thinking I wasn’t a “math person.” My dad said, “Let’s just redo one chapter, properly.” We did Quadratic Equations for 2 hours. Next test: 78/100. I wasn’t bad at math. I was bad at rushing. That’s why I now tell my students: “Speed is the last thing we learn. Understanding is first.” One of my Superprof students went from 35% to 91% in 5 months using that same rule.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Early on, my biggest challenge was “curse of knowledge” — I’d skip steps because they felt obvious to me. Students would get lost and I’d blame them. I had to relearn how to see problems from a beginner’s eyes. Even now, the challenge is math anxiety. Many students in Indore and across India come in already defeated. Half my job is un-teaching the belief “I’m not good at math” before we even touch Pythagoras. Online, the other challenge is keeping attention. So I use digital whiteboards, GeoGebra, and quick 2-minute concept checks.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is making “hard” subjects feel winnable. Specifically, I love the moment when a student says “Wait, that’s it?” after we solve something they thought was impossible. Outside math, I’m into chess and origami. Both tie back: chess teaches strategic thinking, and origami is geometry with paper. I sometimes use both in class to explain concepts.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

Results + relationship. My students don’t just improve scores, they start enjoying the subject. Parents tell me their kid now “argues about math at dinner.” I track every student with custom notes, weekly goals, and I’m available for doubt-solving between classes. I’ve taught 200+ students on Superprof with a 4.9/5 rating, and 80% of them came via referrals. I also create concept maps and cheat sheets tailored to each student’s weak areas. I don’t do one-size-fits-all. With me, you get a coach, not just a tutor.
