About Dian

I truly believe being able to communicate in another language is one of the fastest ways to genuinely connect with people — and in Indonesia, a lot of that connection happens over food. Don't be surprised, lessons naturally drift there too as I love sharing my love of Indonesian food... it just naturally tends to sneak into every few sessions whether we planned it or not :-)

Teaching is my actual trade and my passion, not just a side gig! Which means I come with real classroom resources and an understanding of pedagogy, so lessons are built to support learners of different abilities and paces, as well as to build genuine confidence rather than just cover material.

About the lesson

I grew up in Indonesia and spent years working at multinational companies before moving to Australia — the kind of background that makes you think settling in somewhere new will be straightforward. It wasn't, and that's exactly what shapes these lessons.

What surprised me most, moving to Australia, was realising how much I had to relearn on the other side of a language — the slang no textbook mentions, the small culture shocks, the unwritten rules of how people actually talk to each other. That's the part most courses skip, and it's the part that actually gets you through a real conversation.

It's why I teach with a beginner's mindset built in from lesson one — especially useful if you're heading to Indonesia to travel or planning to live there. I've been on the other side of that gap, and I know it's not about memorising more words, it's about understanding the person in front of you.
