About Carina
I am a fourth-year student at James Madison University, majoring in Health Sciences with minors in Biology and Pre-medicine, and I am a member of the Honors College. Since my first year, I have served as a General Chemistry Teaching Assistant, helping students develop a strong understanding of course material. More recently, I began tutoring students in math and reading in the Harrisonburg, Virginia area, where I enjoy helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals.

As a tutor, I will take the time to understand each student's individual learning style and identify the root of their struggles. By breaking complex topics into manageable, step-by-step concepts, I can help students not only understand what they are doing but also why they are doing it. I believe true learning comes from building a strong foundation rather than simply memorizing information. By creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, I hope to build their confidence and help them become more independent learners.
Typical 1-Hour Tutoring Session
5 minutes: Check in with the student and review goals for the session
10 minutes: Review previous material, homework, or any questions the student has
15 minutes: Teach and explain new concepts using examples and step-by-step instructions
20 minutes: Guided practice problems with support and feedback
5 minutes: Independent practice to assess understanding
5 minutes: Review key takeaways, answer remaining questions, and create a plan for the next session
