About Peyton
I studied pre-medicine/biology at Lake Forest College and graduated with honors in Biology and Neuroscience. At the college, I spent 3 years as a peer teacher (neuroscience/cell biology/molecular biology) for 2nd-year/3rd-year students. During that time I created weekly study sessions and quizzes for the students. Each of the students reported an increase in overall comprehension and final grade in the course.
Apart from the in-classroom teaching, I also created an MCAT study program for college students. Personally, I improved my MCAT score by 17 points (from below the 50th percentile to above the 90th percentile) using this program and helped other students improve their scores from well below-average to above-average scores as well.
I have experience working with kids as young as 5th grade up to college graduates. I am a strong proponent of using encouragement to build up my students, rather than criticism (except for necessary constructive criticism). I believe that confidence is a huge part of academic success and I work to instill that confidence into my students on top of the skills and knowledge that they take away.

FOR THE STUDENTS:
I want to be clear that I am specifically looking for students that are motivated to improve their full skillset in health sciences (pre-medicine, pre-health, biology/anatomy/physiology, etc). These lessons are not designed so that you will be able to reproduce vocabulary or recite information without understanding it fully. I am looking for students willing to work hard in order to improve their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. If you are only looking to memorize a bunch of information and find the easy way out these lessons are not for you. I expect each student to come prepared to the initial lesson with goals and areas in which they would like to focus.
MY METHODOLOGY:
There are three main considerations that I take into account when creating a lesson plan:
1. First and foremost, the goals of the students
2. Second, the strengths and weaknesses of the students
3. And finally, the timeframe of the student
These three considerations are what we will determine in the initial lesson. After we have created a plan, we will proceed with lessons geared towards your individual goals.
A large part of what my students do is learn by practice. All of my lessons include practice examples. I like to guide them through the thinking process and also give them practice examples to attempt before discussing the question and correct answer with them afterward. In my experience this is the most beneficial for practical knowledge, problem solving and test-taking skills.
I also make sure to include in-depth teaching of a core concept during each lesson (for 1-hr lessons). Then, during the following visit, I test their knowledge of that core concept with questions and practice examples. All of my lessons build on one another to create a well-rounded library of knowledge and skills for the students.
I am happy to customize the lessons to your needs and goals, but the lessons will also be well-structured and organized within my teaching methodology.
