About Bella
Teaching saxophone is a journey I approach with enthusiasm and care, focused on nurturing both technical skill and creative expression. The foundation of my teaching is building healthy habits: breath control, embouchure stability, finger agility, posture, tone production, articulation, and intonation are prioritized to ensure longevity and versatility in playing. I tailor lessons to individual student needs and learning styles, balancing technical drills with fun and inspiring repertoire that aligns with their musical interests. Improvisation is integral from early lessons; I help students develop fluency through scale practice, ear training, backing tracks, and improvisational exercises that encourage exploration and confidence. Music theory is presented practically, always connected to repertoire or improvisation, so students see its relevance. I work with students to establish clear, motivating goals and design practice plans that fit their lives. Technology—such as recording software, metronomes, and digital sheet music—is incorporated to support progress and self-assessment. One of the most rewarding experiences was watching a student transform from a nervous beginner into a confident soloist performing original improvisations. My aim is to foster saxophonists who are technically proficient, creatively inspired, and passionate about their musical journey.

My philosophy for teaching saxophone centers on cultivating a nurturing, inspiring environment where students feel supported in both technical mastery and artistic exploration. I prioritize foundational skills such as posture, breath support, embouchure formation, finger dexterity, articulation clarity, tone quality, and rhythmic accuracy as the pillars of healthy, effective playing.
I complement this with a strong emphasis on creativity, encouraging students to develop their own voice through improvisation, dynamic phrasing, and expressive interpretation across genres like jazz, classical, blues, and contemporary music. Lessons are highly personalized to each student’s learning style, musical preferences, and goals. Music theory and ear training are incorporated in practical ways that enhance improvisation and overall musicianship.
I leverage technology such as recording apps, metronomes, tuners, and backing tracks to provide constructive feedback and foster disciplined practice habits. Performance preparation is integral, with coaching on stage presence, confidence, and anxiety management to ensure students can perform with authenticity and joy.
One particularly meaningful teaching moment involved a student who initially struggled with stage fright but, through gradual exposure and positive reinforcement, gained the confidence to deliver an emotionally powerful solo at a major recital. I am committed to helping every student unlock their full potential, combining technical skill, creative freedom, and emotional connection to become a well-rounded and expressive saxophonist.
